Summer Breeze with Craft for the Craic!

Hello! Happy Sunday to you :) over at Craft for the Craic this month, the challenge theme is Summer Breeze. I have been working a lot on crochet lately than paper crafts. There have been a lot of new babies, and I have been making baby blankets! This one I made for my friends baby girl -

I recently printed myself some tags for my crochet, and they have been a Godsend! I left them pretty bare purposely, so I can decorate them as I need them.

This blanket is made up of granny squares crocheted together. I can't resist the colours. They are so summery and cheery. I made sure to have loads of pinks in, and I love the brightness of it!

Sibling Limelight!

Hello! What a beautiful sunny Saturday it was in Ireland :D

This week is the Purple Design Team's week over at Eclectic Ellapu. This weeks challenge is self made (anhydrous) flowers. This is the design team project I crocheted - a hairband and a bag. I am working on a pattern for both items, but like everything, it is a matter of time ;-)

This headband is modeled by my cute (I am biased of course!) youngest daughter, Hannah. While getting my eldest daughter's (the intended model) shoes on, Hannah grabbed the bag and made off outside with it. I didn't realise she had it, until I went outside, camera in hand, and heard "eeese" (baby talk for cheese) Hannah was in the garden, posing with the bag! I'm still laughing at her audacity, stealing her sister's limelight!

Missing in action!

Hello everyone! Gosh has it been so long since last posting?! It has been very, very busy this end. Not as busy with crafting as I would like, but slowly getting back into it!!

I am a crafter who usually requires a lot of thinking time before doing anything. I find it hard to just follow an example, hence why I find it practically impossible to mass produce! Each item is nearly always different from the previous. So in the evenings lately, when I get to sit down, my head is usually too frazzled to start being creative. I veg in front of the tv crocheting. I find it so relaxing letting the hook and yarn take over! I recently got a beautiful, generous gift of some fabulous coloured yarns, so I have decided to pass on the goodness with gifts to as many people possible. It will take a long time, but I will get there!!  Anyway, enough of my ramblings! Here are some photos of what I have been working on....

This is a cardigan I made for my friends little baby. I love the colour, haven't made anything blue in a while. I'm used to princess colours lately!

This is a handbag I made for a little friend of my daughters. I am in the process of making a matching hairband, after all every girl needs a bag and hairband, right? I am also planning on making one for every little girl in my life. :D

This was my first time to crochet a flower, and despite the many patterns I tried follow, I couldn't get the hang of it. So this I did by experimenting. I made the starting ring, particularly large and loose so that the cylindrical button could act as the clasp (??! Is that what it's called?!) and be pulled through to close it.

Work in Progress No. 2

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have my daughter's Christening on Sunday. My second daughter, was much bigger than my first. At birth she weighted 10lb 3oz, 2lb 3oz heavier than her sister. It didn't suit to have the Christening when she was smaller, so now she's 5 months old and 2 months older than when her sister was Christened. With both these points in mind, I decided to create a new Christening gown. I also thought afterwards, how lovely it will be, to have a Christening gown to pass on to each of the girls.

Anyway, I started 2 times with patterns from my head. Each time they ended up wrong! They started going out of shape before they were even finished. So I scoured the internet to find something, that I could make easily, quickly and that resembled a Christening gown. The pattern I found initially, I was not entirely happy with, but beggars can't be choosers so I started it.

I am using a 3.75mm hook and double knitting wool. I went for the size 18 months because I couldn't figure out the American size hooks on the pattern. (I'm *sure* there is some website that could tell me, but my need for speed did not allow such a search)

So I'm almost there!! Woohooo!! This second work in progress will progress and be finished! (by Saturday night hopefully!) I just hope my baby doesn't grow a lot in the next few days. I tried on what I had made to date, and it was a little bit tight around the arms. *sad face* BUT I did have 3 layers under the dress, and that won't happen on Sunday! (who knows my back up plan of *ghast* purchasing a Gown might have to swing into place on Saturday.)

Fingers crossed all will be well. :D
And by the way, despite my initial lack of love for the pattern, as it is progressing I am ABSOLUTELY loving it!! I think the picture from the pattern wasn't gelling with me, but now that I'm crocheting it, I think it's ideal!!
I can't find the link for the pattern, to give credit to the creator. I will keep searching and hopefully in a later post link it.

Work in Progress - Baby Blanket

This is a baby blanket I am in the middle of making. I used to ALWAYS do granny square blankets, but the chore of sewing them up at the end, killed me! So when I came across this pattern I thought *sweet*!

My friend recently had a baby girl, so I decided to make a blanket for her little bundle of joy. The child might be in school by the time I finish, but I will live in hope that I will be finished sooner!

I am using double knitting wool and hook size five. I started off with 110 stitches. Not sure yet how wide I will go, I will keep crocheting until it looks "right"!
